Without a Speck of change

 

I the LORD do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Malachi 3:6 (NIV)

When I was twelve, I had a best friend at my Sunday School. He and I were for a time inseparable. One Sunday when I came to church, I looked forward to connecting with him and finding out how his week had gone. To my surprise, his feelings for me had evaporated and in addition he had placed his attention on another boy with whom he built a grand and fast affiliation. As they sat together behind me, I was shocked at how quickly he had switched his allegiance. The greater hurt I felt was at the rebuff and dismissal of what I had considered a great friendship. That day I learned the difference between a friend and an acquaintance. He never spoke to me again and passing one another in church was awkward up to the day I found another church to attend that better ministered to my needs. I still wish my best to him and his family for a happy and blessed life in the Lord.

When you stop to consider it, aren’t you glad God is not that way? People can change frequently, especially regarding one’s interests, loyalties, and affections. Despite how you might view God, when He is quiet, He remains present with you, without a speck of change in His love. He is immutable (unchanging). As you read this, He has not changed at all in the eons of eternity. You have never been forgotten and His love and concern for you are as fresh and vibrant as they ever were. In a past that has had no beginning, you have been in His mind and heart in an eternity where time does not change or destroy. In fact, He rejoices over you in song (Zephaniah 3:17).

You may have friends, family, co-workers, or even spouses who may forsake you, leaving you with feelings that bring devastation that split your soul like lightning splits an oak tree. Be encouraged that even as fickle as people can be, God is as consistently reliable, unmovable, and unchanging in your life. You never need to worry about waking up one day and finding He likes someone else more or that He is ignoring you because something or someone else has His attention.

God’s promise that He will never change will be kept, for His word, like Himself is immutable. A promise is only as good as the person who makes it and who has the power to make it so. God’s word is His bond, and so much more the Word that became flesh and made His dwelling among us holds all authority in heaven and on earth (John 1:14, Matthew 28:18). 

For someone who has not changed one smidge in uncountable eons that word is easy for Him to say, and surely, truer words have never been spoken.

Sin una pizca de cambio

Cuando tenía doce años, tenía un mejor amigo en mi escuela dominical. Él y yo fuimos inseparables durante un tiempo. Un domingo, cuando llegué a la iglesia, esperaba con ansias conectarme con él y descubrir cómo le había ido en la semana. Para mi sorpresa, sus sentimientos por mí se habían evaporado y, además, había puesto su atención en otro chico con el que construyó una gran y rápida afiliación. Mientras se sentaban juntos detrás de mí, me sorprendió lo rápido que había cambiado su lealtad. El mayor dolor que sentí fue el rechazo y el rechazo de lo que había considerado una gran amistad. Ese día aprendí la diferencia entre un amigo y un conocido. Nunca me volvió a hablar y cruzarse en la iglesia fue incómodo hasta el día en que encontré otra iglesia a la que asistir y que ministraba mejor a mis necesidades. Todavía le deseo lo mejor a él y a su familia para una vida feliz y bendecida en el Señor.

Cuando te detienes a considerarlo, ¿no te alegras de que Dios no sea así? Las personas pueden cambiar con frecuencia, especialmente en lo que respecta a los intereses, lealtades y afectos de uno. A pesar de cómo puedas ver a Dios, cuando Él está callado, Él permanece presente contigo, sin una pizca de cambio en Su amor. Él es inmutable (inmutable). Al leer esto, Él no ha cambiado en absoluto en los eones de la eternidad. Nunca has sido olvidado y Su amor y preocupación por ti son tan frescos y vibrantes como siempre lo fueron. En un pasado que no ha tenido principio, has estado en Su mente y corazón en una eternidad donde el tiempo no cambia ni destruye. De hecho, Él se regocija por ti con cánticos (Sofonías 3:17).

Es posible que tengas amigos, familiares, compañeros de trabajo o incluso cónyuges que te abandonen, dejándote con sentimientos que te traen devastación y te parten el alma como un rayo parte un roble. Anímate a saber que, por muy volubles que puedan ser las personas, Dios es tan confiable, inamovible e inmutable en tu vida. Nunca tienes que preocuparte por despertar un día y descubrir que a Él le gusta más otra persona o que te está ignorando porque algo o alguien más tiene Su atención.

La promesa de Dios de que nunca cambiará se cumplirá, porque Su palabra, al igual que Él mismo, es inmutable. Una promesa es tan buena como la persona que la hace y que tiene el poder para hacerla realidad. La palabra de Dios es Su vínculo, y mucho más el Verbo que se hizo carne y habitó entre nosotros tiene toda autoridad en el cielo y en la tierra (Juan 1:14, Mateo 28:18). 

Para alguien que no ha cambiado ni una pizca en incontables eones, esa palabra es fácil de decir para Él, y seguramente, nunca se han dicho palabras más verdaderas.

Are You a Spiritual Engineer?

 

Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with dwellings. Isaiah 58:12 (NIV)

God does not change and can restore a broken life of anyone, Jew, and Gentile alike, that trusts in His Son, Jesus Christ. He promised Israel He would restore to them the years the locust had destroyed (Joel 2:25). To all who have believed in Christ, Paul writes He (Christ) rebuilds what was lost and gives life to the dead, calling into being things that are not (Romans 4:17). In that very act of creating something out of nothing, He grants us the privilege of becoming a people who will become a part of His kingdom construction crew. He grants us the privilege of becoming spiritual engineers.

Jesus was a builder Himself. The Bible calls Him a carpenter (Mark 6:3). To us that is someone who works only with wood. The word in Greek is tecton. While a tecton could turn wood into useful items, the title designates a handyman, one with other skills who could build with various materials. It could be more than just a master woodworker, and could have included the skill of stone masonry.

Jesus Christ is still in the construction business, only now He rebuilds lives that are hulks of their former selves. He searches out tombstones that mark lives that were dead in trespasses and sins and can revive them to hearts of living stone (Ephesians 2:1-5, 1^st Peter 2:5). He is not the master demolition expert Satan through lies and misrepresentation has accused Him of being. He is the Chief Cornerstone.

Once restored, He makes you His choice to present Him by going into devastated neighborhoods, to testify of His love and power to change, grow, and strengthen those broken by life. He forgives His children and mends the broken wings of those who Satan says will never fly-so-high again. Jesus takes them to lofty heights and causes them to soar like eagles.

There is no unemployment line in God’s building business, for there are many sites in the process in need of repair. The Lord hands us His blue prints and bids us to set a plumbline here, a brick there, or maybe some paint where needed. He might even have you do a bit of farming in planting seeds on what might seem to be barren ground, or watering what others have planted waiting for God to bring the increase.

He is always looking for workers willing to be His Spiritual engineers. He is always hiring. Those who will repair broken walls and restore streets with dwellings do so that the bruised and battered of life can have a thriving neighborhood they can call home.

Jesus does not do carpentry alone. He is building a kingdom of people through you who have believed in Him and have trusted Him as their Master Builder. As workers all He asks of you is to report to the jobsite with a willing and compassionate heart to be His hands on earth. There is no worry about the availability of materials and tools. The Master Builder is the Master Supplier. Where God guides, He always provides. He makes you His spiritual engineer.

¿Eres un ingeniero espiritual?

Dios no cambia y puede restaurar una vida quebrantada de cualquiera, judío y gentil por igual, que confíe en Su Hijo, Jesucristo. Él le prometió a Israel que les devolvería los años que la langosta había destruido (Joel 2:25). A todos los que han creído en Cristo, Pablo escribe que Él (Cristo) reconstruye lo que se perdió y da vida a los muertos, llamando a las cosas que no son (Romanos 4:17). En ese mismo acto de crear algo de la nada, Él nos concede el privilegio de convertirnos en un pueblo que se convertirá en parte del equipo de construcción de Su reino. Él nos concede el privilegio de convertirnos en ingenieros espirituales.

Jesús mismo fue un constructor. La Biblia lo llama carpintero (Marcos 6:3). Para nosotros es alguien que trabaja solo con madera. La palabra en griego es tecton. Si bien un tectón podía convertir la madera en artículos útiles, el título designa a un manitas, uno con otras habilidades que podía construir con varios materiales. Podría ser algo más que un maestro carpintero, y podría haber incluido la habilidad de la albañilería de piedra.

Jesucristo todavía está en el negocio de la construcción, solo que ahora reconstruye vidas que son descomunales de lo que fueron. Él busca lápidas que marquen vidas que estaban muertas en delitos y pecados y pueda revivirlas en corazones de piedra viva (Efesios 2:1-5, 1 Pedro 2:5). Él no es el maestro experto en demoliciones que Satanás, a través de mentiras y tergiversaciones, lo ha acusado de ser. Él es la Piedra Angular Principal.

Una vez restaurado, Él toma la decisión de presentarlo yendo a los vecindarios devastados, para testificar de Su amor y poder para cambiar, hacer crecer y fortalecer a los quebrantados por la vida. Él perdona a Sus hijos y repara las alas rotas de aquellos que Satanás dice que nunca volverán a volar tan alto. Jesús los lleva a grandes alturas y los hace volar como águilas.

No hay cola de desempleo en el negocio de la construcción de Dios, porque hay muchos sitios en el proceso que necesitan reparación. El Señor nos entrega Sus planos y nos pide que coloquemos una plomada aquí, un ladrillo allá, o tal vez un poco de pintura donde sea necesario. Incluso podría hacer que usted cultive un poco plantando semillas en lo que podría parecer un terreno estéril, o regando lo que otros han plantado esperando que Dios traiga el crecimiento.

Él siempre está buscando obreros dispuestos a ser Sus ingenieros espirituales. Siempre está contratando. Aquellos que repararán muros rotos y restaurarán calles con viviendas, lo harán para que los magullados y maltratados de la vida puedan tener un vecindario próspero al que puedan llamar hogar.

Jesús no se dedica solo a la carpintería. Él está edificando un reino de personas a través de ustedes que han creído en Él y han confiado en Él como su Maestro Constructor. Como obreros, todo lo que Él les pide es que se presenten en el lugar de trabajo con un corazón dispuesto y compasivo para ser Sus manos en la tierra. No hay que preocuparse por la disponibilidad de materiales y herramientas. El Maestro Constructor es el Proveedor Principal. Donde Dios guía, Él siempre provee. Él te hace Su ingeniero espiritual.

The Preconceived Eye of the Beholder

 

However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear heard, no mind conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1^st Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)

I relocated to Arkansas in the early 1990s. The state is a blend of natural beauty, blended with Southern charm and a pace of life that is much slower than other places I have lived. Arkansas is one of the best kept secrets in the country. I was amused at the many descriptive stories that poke fun at my adopted state. Despite what you may have heard we all wear shoes and I have yet to meet anyone married to his sister or cousin.

I thought I’d heard them all until a lady in my church related a visit by her mother. Her mom was from the West Coast and was totally shocked when she got to our town. The first thing she said was, “Why, you have stop lights. And the streets are paved!” I had to laugh at my friend’s description, especially when she said, “And do you know she was serious?”

Do you have any idea what heaven is really like? I’m sure most of us have some preconceived notions. The Apostle Paul was more than likely speaking here of a personal Near-Death Experience (NDE), perhaps at the city of Lystra (Acts 14:19). In his near-death experience, he said he heard inexpressible things that no one is permitted to tell (2^nd Corinthians 2:4).

That he heard, he also must have seen astounding things, and could rightly say no mind has even conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. I believe the Lord left it that way on purpose. He could have given us a detailed description of heaven, but for some reason Scripture only offers an enticing glimpse.

In this time of medical breakthroughs many have been resuscitated from an NDE who have told stories of heaven as a marvelous world of the tangible things like we have on earth, grass, rivers, trees, flowers, and blue skies. Earth seems to be a shadowy mirror image of heaven, blurred by the curse of sin.

One of the most astounding (and Scriptural) NDE descriptions of Heaven and seeing Christ is by Dean Braxton on the YouTube app, and yes, he said our pets will be waiting for us! He added, “That might not be good news for a lot of people for the way they treated them.”

Heaven is eternal and flesh and blood cannot live in it. We will have new bodies given to us when the Lord Jesus returns for His bride, the Church. We will be a part of a marvelous experience that will amaze us forever.

You can doubt it my brothers and sisters but you will one day see it and live in the glorious kingdom Christ has prepared for you. Of that place, Jesus promised, “And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may be where I am” (John 14:5).

Our eyes have yet to see and ears to hear what our minds currently could never conceive of its wonder, sensation, and marvel. Anyone who believes in Jesus will experience it. He not only has prepared it but has promised to take you there! Even so, maranatha, come, Lord Jesus.

El ojo preconcebido del espectador

Me mudé a Arkansas a principios de la década de 1990. El estado es una mezcla de belleza natural, mezclada con el encanto sureño y un ritmo de vida que es mucho más lento que otros lugares en los que he vivido. Arkansas es uno de los secretos mejor guardados del país. Me divertían las muchas historias descriptivas que se burlaban de mi estado adoptivo. A pesar de lo que hayas escuchado, todos usamos zapatos y todavía no he conocido a nadie casado con su hermana o prima.

Pensé que las había escuchado todas hasta que una señora de mi iglesia me contó una visita de su madre. Su mamá era de la Costa Oeste y estaba totalmente sorprendida cuando llegó a nuestra ciudad. Lo primero que dijo fue: "Bueno, tienes semáforos. ¡Y las calles están empedradas!" Tuve que reírme de la descripción de mi amiga, especialmente cuando dijo: "¿Y sabes que hablaba en serio?"

¿Tienes alguna idea de cómo es realmente el cielo? Estoy seguro de que la mayoría de nosotros tenemos algunas ideas preconcebidas. Es más que probable que el apóstol Pablo estuviera hablando aquí de una experiencia personal cercana a la muerte (ECM), tal vez en la ciudad de Listra (Hechos 14:19). En su experiencia cercana a la muerte, dijo que escuchó cosas inefables que a nadie se le permite contar (2 Corintios 2:4).

Lo que oyó, también debe haber visto cosas asombrosas, y podría decir con razón que ninguna mente ha concebido siquiera lo que Dios ha preparado para aquellos que lo aman. Yo creo que el Señor lo dejó de esa manera a propósito. Él podría habernos dado una descripción detallada del cielo, pero por alguna razón las Escrituras solo ofrecen una visión tentadora.

En esta época de avances médicos, muchos han sido resucitados de una ECM y han contado historias del cielo como un mundo maravilloso de las cosas tangibles como las que tenemos en la tierra, la hierba, los ríos, los árboles, las flores y los cielos azules. La Tierra parece ser una imagen sombría del cielo, borrosa por la maldición del pecado.

Una de las descripciones más asombrosas (y bíblicas) de las ECM del Cielo y de ver a Cristo es de Dean Braxton en la aplicación de YouTube, y sí, ¡dijo que nuestras mascotas nos estarán esperando! Y añadió: "Eso podría no ser una buena noticia para muchas personas por la forma en que los trataron".

El cielo es eterno y la carne y la sangre no pueden vivir en él. Tendremos nuevos cuerpos que se nos darán cuando el Señor Jesús regrese por Su novia, la Iglesia. Seremos parte de una experiencia maravillosa que nos sorprenderá para siempre.

Ustedes pueden dudar de ello, mis hermanos y hermanas, pero un día lo verán y vivirán en el glorioso reino que Cristo ha preparado para ustedes. De ese lugar, Jesús prometió: "Y si voy a preparar un lugar para vosotros, volveré y os tomaré para que estéis conmigo y estéis donde yo estoy" (Juan 14:5).

Nuestros ojos aún no han visto y nuestros oídos han oído lo que nuestras mentes actualmente nunca podrían concebir de su maravilla, sensación y maravilla. Cualquiera que crea en Jesús lo experimentará. ¡Él no solo lo ha preparado, sino que ha prometido llevarte allí! Aun así, maranatha, ven, Señor Jesús.

Wishing You a Happier New Year

 

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. Revelation 21:1 (NIV)

Happy New Year to my many readers. Your prayerful support and comments were a great encouragement to me throughout 2024. I am excited to see how the Lord will move in ’25. As we follow the things happening on the world scene one might wonder what on Earth is going on? It can tend to move us to fret and worry over things that are beyond our control, or to a thrilling expectancy of the appearance of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13).

Through the prophets of ancient Israel and the eye witness accounts of Jesus from the Jews who wrote the New Testament, God has ensured we have a solid understanding of the future He has ordained for humanity. So much of what the prophets received from Him through visions and inspiration has come to pass, with incredible 100% accuracy in things He has done and things He will yet fulfill that include us. Jesus said He would not leave us like orphans. He reassures us that even though He would be going to the Father, that being away He would not abandon us.

Though unseen, He has been with us through the Holy Spirit and will physically return to us to take us to be with Him (John 14:3,18, 1^st Thessalonians 4:17). You have the personal promise that the story ends for you in victory. You could not ask for a Happier New Year than that.

God’s New Year will never end. It will go on forever into a stunningly beautiful and wondrous eternity. It will be an eternity in which God will continue to reveal things to you that will bring you to worship His marvelous presence as He continually amazes and fulfills your eternity with Him. With that, we can even now all shout together in the greatest expectancy and hope,

“MARANATHA!”

Vi la Ciudad Santa, la nueva Jerusalén, que descendía del cielo, de Dios, preparada como una novia bellamente vestida para su esposo. Apocalipsis 21:1 (NVI)

Te deseo un feliz año nuevo

Feliz Año Nuevo a mis muchos lectores. Su apoyo y comentarios en oración fueron un gran estímulo para mí a lo largo de 2024. Estoy emocionado de ver cómo se moverá el Señor en el 25. A medida que seguimos las cosas que suceden en la escena mundial, uno podría preguntarse: ¿qué demonios está pasando? Puede tender a movernos a inquietarnos y preocuparnos por cosas que están más allá de nuestro control, o a una expectativa emocionante de la aparición de nuestro gran Dios y Salvador, Jesucristo (Tito 2:13).

A través de los profetas del antiguo Israel y los relatos de testigos oculares de Jesús de los judíos que escribieron el Nuevo Testamento, Dios se ha asegurado de que tengamos un entendimiento sólido del futuro que ha ordenado para la humanidad. Mucho de lo que los profetas recibieron de Él a través de visiones e inspiración se ha cumplido, con una increíble precisión del 100% en las cosas que Él ha hecho y en las cosas que aún cumplirá y que nos incluyen. Jesús dijo que no nos dejaría como huérfanos. Él nos asegura que, aunque Él iría al Padre, estando ausente no nos abandonaría.

Aunque invisible, Él ha estado con nosotros a través del Espíritu Santo y regresará físicamente a nosotros para llevarnos a estar con Él (Juan 14:3,18, 1 Tesalonicenses 4:17). Tienes la promesa personal de que la historia termina para ti con victoria. No se puede pedir un Año Nuevo más feliz que ese.

El Año Nuevo de Dios nunca terminará. Continuará para siempre en una eternidad asombrosamente hermosa y maravillosa. Será una eternidad en la que Dios continuará revelándote cosas que te llevarán a adorar Su maravillosa presencia mientras Él continuamente asombra y llena tu eternidad con Él. Con eso, incluso ahora podemos gritar todos juntos con la mayor expectación y esperanza:

"¡MARANATHA!"

Bitten By the Unforeseen

 

Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. Acts 28:3 (NIV)

The Apostle Paul and a group of survivors of a shipwreck had just washed up on the shore of Malta. It was a harrowing escape from death by drowning and with rain falling they were soaked, cold, and frightened. The people of Malta showed them unusual kindness, building a fire and welcoming them.

A poisonous serpent bit Paul as he lay his wood on the fire. He shook the animal off his hand into the fire and acted as though it were nothing. The onlookers who saw it immediately thought he was a murderer who in escaping the sea was still judged for his evil. They watched and waited for him to die. When he showed no ill effects, they changed their minds and erroneously said he was a god (28:6).

I do not know if Paul was as freaked out by snakes as I am, but he seemed to have taken it in stride. Of all the things that could happen to me after surviving such an epic disaster I am sure it would have left me wondering “Wasn’t being under arrest and a shipwreck enough, Lord? Now You allow a poisonous snake to bite me?” I am mostly sure I would have sat down and cried, saying, “So, God, when is enough, enough?” I am not guessing at that for I have done it more times than I would like to admit.

It can seem at times of crisis that if things could not grow worse, we can wait a few minutes and they will. We live in a contingent universe that reacts to the cause and curse of sin and its resulting imperfect effects. What we reason cannot come close to God’s flawless reasoning and perfect plan though. Hindsight can show how in bad times His way always has a silver lining. Two immediately came to mind in this incident; Paul was OK, and the rest got to witness the power of Christ in the life of a believer.

Those who watched that occurrence on the beach that day and Paul’s automatic and calm trust in Jesus Christ were amazed at the outcome. They saw and understood a miraculous power was evident and perhaps it was the first seeds planted within hearts and minds that would eventually bring them to faith in the Lord. Seldom do people immediately fall to their knees in acceptance of God’s perfect Lamb but grow as seedlings, planted and watered by believers that God causes to grow up in Him (1^st Corinthians 3:6).

In your own stormy days others who are watching you could do the same. Your witness of patiently shaking off the attack of a serpent with trust and certainty in Christ will reveal His miraculous working in your own life.

At times it just seems easier to sit down and moan the serpent’s bite, but shaking them into God’s purging fire will amaze both unbelievers and edify and build up the faith of the saints. Shaking it into the fire with calmness and a quiet trust might not end the ordeal, but those watching will see and be amazed at God’s power working in your life. It will be a testimony to Christ’s wisdom and power when anything crawls out of a disaster and you are bitten by the unforeseen.

Mordido por lo imprevisto

El apóstol Pablo y un grupo de supervivientes de un naufragio acababan de llegar a la costa de Malta. Fue un angustioso escape de la muerte por ahogamiento y con la lluvia que caía estaban empapados, fríos y asustados. La gente de Malta les mostró una amabilidad inusual, encendiendo una fogata y dándoles la bienvenida.

Una serpiente venenosa mordió a Pablo mientras ponía su leña en el fuego. Sacudió el animal de su mano y lo arrojó al fuego y actuó como si no fuera nada. Los espectadores que lo vieron inmediatamente pensaron que era un asesino que, al escapar del mar, todavía era juzgado por su maldad. Lo observaron y esperaron a que muriera. Cuando no mostró efectos nocivos, cambiaron de opinión y dijeron erróneamente que era un dios (28:6).

No sé si a Paul le asustaban tanto las serpientes como a mí, pero parecía que se lo había tomado con calma. De todas las cosas que podrían pasarme después de sobrevivir a un desastre tan épico, estoy seguro de que me habría dejado preguntándome: "¿No era suficiente estar bajo arresto y ser un naufragio, Señor? ¿Ahora permites que me muerda una serpiente venenosa? Estoy casi seguro de que me habría sentado y llorado, diciendo: "Entonces, Dios, ¿cuándo es suficiente, suficiente?" No estoy adivinando eso, porque lo he hecho más veces de las que me gustaría admitir.

En tiempos de crisis puede parecer que si las cosas no pueden empeorar, podemos esperar unos minutos y lo harán. Vivimos en un universo contingente que reacciona a la causa y maldición del pecado y sus efectos imperfectos resultantes. Sin embargo, lo que razonamos no puede acercarse al razonamiento impecable y al plan perfecto de Dios. La retrospectiva puede mostrar cómo en los malos tiempos Su camino siempre tiene un lado positivo. Dos me vinieron inmediatamente a la mente en este incidente; Pablo estaba bien, y el resto pudo presenciar el poder de Cristo en la vida de un creyente.

Aquellos que vieron ese suceso en la playa ese día y la confianza automática y tranquila de Pablo en Jesucristo se sorprendieron del resultado. Vieron y entendieron que un poder milagroso era evidente, y tal vez fueron las primeras semillas plantadas dentro de los corazones y las mentes que eventualmente los llevarían a la fe en el Señor. Rara vez las personas caen inmediatamente de rodillas en aceptación del Cordero perfecto de Dios, sino que crecen como plántulas, plantadas y regadas por los creyentes, pero hechas por Dios para crecer en Él (1 Corintios 3:6).

En tus propios días tormentosos, otros que te están observando podrían hacer lo mismo. Su testimonio de sacudirse pacientemente el ataque de una serpiente con confianza y certeza en Cristo revelará Su obra milagrosa en su propia vida.

A veces parece más fácil sentarse y gemir la mordedura de la serpiente, pero sacudirlos en el fuego purificador de Dios asombrará tanto a los incrédulos como edificará y edificará la fe de los santos. Agitarlo en el fuego con calma y una confianza tranquila podría no poner fin a la prueba, pero los que miran verán y se asombrarán del poder de Dios obrando en su vida. Será un testimonio de la sabiduría y el poder de Cristo cuando algo salga de un desastre y te muerda lo imprevisto.

Is it That Simple?

 

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:34-36 (NIV)

I have heard people reject the gospel because it is too simple. When pressed one person put it to me this way; “Being forgiven that way is too easy. Justice is not served. There needs to be accountability for the consequences of the trespass a person commits. Their forgiveness should depend on the payment of a disciplinary restitution.”

 What does scripture teach? Is the work of reconciliation to God our responsibility or Christ’s? Scripture teaches it is only through the redemptive work of Christ and non-other. In God’s eyes human righteousness is equal to filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). That creates man-made religious rules and regulations that can become a trap of legalistic ungrace that ignores relationship with God and others. Jesus here is telling the Jews what He witnessed in His Father’s presence and they were making things difficult by doing what their father, the Devil, had told them (John 8:38, 44).

When Jesus forgave the sins of the paralytic man, the Pharisees thought, ‘This fellow is a blasphemer. Only God can forgive sins’ (Luke 5:21). They were correct in that understanding. Jesus then pushed the concept of deity into the equation. He basically told them ‘Talk is cheap. I have that deity and authority’ and to prove it He healed the man.

Does Jesus have limited power or all power? He said all power had been granted to Him by the Father (Matthew 11:27, 28:18). It signifies that He has the authority to govern and command. He began His ministry in Israel by reading in the synagogue on shabbat Isaiah’s description of what that power would do. It would proclaim God’s good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom to the captives, give release from darkness for the prisoners, and proclaim the LORD’s favor (Isaiah 61:1-2).

There was a cost to have your sins forgiven, but God incredibly took it on Himself. He broke your chains and adopted you. You never had to take that burden on, for there is no way you could free yourself from that, let alone pay for it. Only He has that authority and power to forgive sin and can keep the Devil from keeping you as his slave to iniquity.

Now as His heirs you are offered a permanent place in His family. Being free indeed means trusting in His payment, not your own. If you have believed in the power of the Lender, the Son Christ Jesus, then take heart for He paid your debt in full, and you are free indeed. Yes, all praise to God in Jesus Christ, for it is that simple.

¿Es así de simple?

 He escuchado a personas rechazar el evangelio porque es demasiado simple. Cuando sepresiona uno persona me lo dijo de esta manera; "Ser perdonado de esa manera esdemasiado fácil. La justicia no es Servido. Es necesario que haya rendición de cuentas por las consecuencias de la transgresión persona se compromete. Su perdón debe depender del pago de una restitución disciplinaria". 

¿Qué enseñan las Escrituras? ¿Es la obra de reconciliación con Dios nuestra responsabilidad o la de Cristo? Las Escrituras enseñan que es solo a través de la obra redentora de Cristo y no de otro. A los ojos de Dios, la justicia humana es igual a harapos sucios (Isaías 64:6). Eso crea reglas y regulaciones religiosas hechas por el hombre que pueden convertirse en una trampa de ingratitud legalista que ignora la relación con Dios y con los demás. Jesús aquí les está diciendo a los judíos lo que Él presenció en la presencia de Su Padre y ellos estaban dificultando las cosas al hacer lo que su padre, el Diablo, les había dicho (Juan 8:38, 44).

Cuando Jesús perdonó los pecados del paralítico, los fariseos pensaron: "Este hombre es un blasfemo. Solo Dios puede perdonar los pecados" (Lucas 5:21). Tenían razón en ese entendimiento. Jesús entonces introdujo el concepto de deidad en la ecuación. Básicamente les dijo: 'Hablar es barato. Yo tengo esa deidad y autoridad' y para demostrarlo sanó al hombre.

¿Tiene Jesús un poder limitado o todo el poder? Dijo que todo el poder le había sido concedido por el Padre (Mateo 11:27, 28:18). Significa que Él tiene la autoridad para gobernar y mandar. Comenzó su ministerio en Israel leyendo en la sinagoga en Shabat la descripción de Isaías de lo que ese poder haría. Proclamaría las buenas nuevas de Dios a los pobres, vendaría a los quebrantados de corazón, proclamaría la libertad a los cautivos, liberaría de las tinieblas a los prisioneros y proclamaría el favor del Señor (Isaías 61:1-2).

Había un costo para que tus pecados fueran perdonados, pero Dios increíblemente lo asumió sobre sí mismo. Él rompió tus cadenas y te adoptó. Nunca tuviste que cargar con esa carga, porque no hay forma de que puedas liberarte de eso, y mucho menos pagar por ello. Solo Él tiene esa autoridad y poder para perdonar el pecado y puede evitar que el Diablo te mantenga como su esclavo de la iniquidad.

Ahora, como sus herederos, se les ofrece un lugar permanente en su familia. Ser libre significa confiar en Su pago, no en el tuyo. Si has creído en el poder del Prestamista, el Hijo Jesucristo, entonces anímate porque Él pagó tu deuda en su totalidad, y eres verdaderamente libre. Sí, toda alabanza a Dios en Jesucristo, porque es así de simple.

Supersonic Christians

 

Joy has gone from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning. Lamentations 5:15 (NIV)

On the morning of October 14, 1947, at 10:29 am, a 24-year-old Air Force captain named Chuck Yeager was air launched over the Mojave Desert from a Boeing B-29 bomber at 21,000 feet.

Yeager was piloting the Bell X-1, an experimental aircraft that was a seat attached to four 6000-pound thrust rockets. When he ignited those rocket engines the X-1 pushed him beyond 700 mph—into Mach 1—and flew him into history as the first person to outdistance the speed of sound.

Have you ever seen a supersonic Christian, someone who is so absorbed in the ride they outdistance their relationship with the Lord? It can lead to burning out and loss of joy. Relationship gets lost in the rush to find our worth in service, ignoring how worthy we already are in Christ. Faithfully working for the Lord is our calling but it is not what justifies us and it certainly does not define our worth. If our labor in the Lord is what we live for we lose our ability to relate with Him. Enjoyment will flee from our hearts and there will be very little joy left in our Christian experience.

The Lord will see that His works are accomplished as we continue on the course He has set for us. We do not need to travel at such a frantic pace that we burn out, stress out, and lose the joy of our first love. When we think the only way to get enough done for Him is moving like a rocket ship we trade worship in Him for work. All we may be accomplishing is breaking the joy barrier. At times like those we can find we can get as much done traveling business class. Don’t give up the ride but enjoy the joy. Enjoy the Lord.

Cristianos supersónicos

En la mañana del 14 de octubre de 1947, a las 10:29 am, un capitán de la Fuerza Aérea de 24 años llamado Chuck Yeager fue lanzado desde el desierto de Mojave desde un bombardero Boeing B-29 a 21,000 pies.

Yeager pilotaba el Bell X-1, un avión experimental que era un asiento unido a cuatro cohetes de empuje de 6.000 libras. Cuando encendió esos motores de cohetes, el X-1 lo empujó más allá de las 700 mph, a Mach 1, y lo llevó a la historia como la primera persona en superar la velocidad del sonido.

¿Alguna vez has visto a un cristiano supersónico, alguien que está tan absorto en el viaje que supera su relación con el Señor? Puede llevar al agotamiento y a la pérdida de la alegría. La relación se pierde en la prisa por encontrar nuestro valor en el servicio, ignorando lo dignos que ya somos en Cristo. Trabajar fielmente para el Señor es nuestro llamado, pero no es lo que nos justifica y ciertamente no define nuestro valor. Si nuestro trabajo en el Señor es para lo que vivimos, perdemos nuestra capacidad de relacionarnos con Él. El gozo huirá de nuestros corazones y quedará muy poco gozo en nuestra experiencia cristiana.

El Señor se encargará de que Sus obras se cumplan a medida que continuemos en el curso que Él ha establecido para nosotros. No necesitamos viajar a un ritmo tan frenético que nos quememos, nos estresemos y perdamos la alegría de nuestro primer amor. Cuando pensamos que la única manera de hacer lo suficiente por Él es moviéndonos como un cohete, cambiamos la adoración en Él por el trabajo. Todo lo que podemos estar logrando es romper la barrera de la alegría. En momentos como esos que podemos encontrar, podemos hacer todo lo posible viajando en clase ejecutiva. No renuncies al viaje, pero disfruta de la alegría. Disfruten del Señor.
