Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is
a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12 (NIV)
There is a saying that “Life is what happens to us on the road to our dreams.” It pretty much sums up the reality of the human existence. I believe many of my readers may have their own stories of that.
Some may have suffered a temporary setback to their dreams
and some the shock of what looked like a hopeless situation. Satan holds the
power of hopelessness over us through the lie that God’s silence means He
doesn’t hear us. It is more than just stealing our hope. It is the same lie and
misrepresentation the
devil used on Adam and Eve that God is untrustworthy (Genesis 3:5). Jesus said Satan is the father of
lies (John 8:44). It is true and he excels at deceiving us.
The wind that the hosts of darkness may have you twisting in certainly
can be very disheartening, but if you’re currently turning in it or have had a
negative past experience where you did, the God who never slumbers or sleeps is
fully aware of your pickle and remains your strength.
If you have ever fretted at God’s silence, you’re in good
company. Jesus was faced with the Father’s silence when He needed it most, in
the darkness of the cross. That silence brought Him to call out “Why have You
forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46).
Jesus cried out the
finish of God’s redemptive plan just before He bowed His head in death. All
this was happening while the Disciples were swinging in the wind, hiding and
hopeless. They were unaware that in three days their dread would evaporate when
they saw the Son rise from the grave. These same men and women who were cowering
from Roman and high priest hostility would soon be in the temple with a blazing
testimony and courage that would eventually bring Christ’s redemptive light to the
entire Earth.
Finally, when nothing seems to be happening, I have found the
power of prayer is heard by our Father in heaven who in His loving grace has
kept me through my experience. I’m not giving you a formula of a 1-hour daily
prayer time for an instant and miraculous fix. I wish the Lord worked that way
every time but He works each case on its own merits. You are that special to Him.
Jesus hears every prayer you pray and even think, long and
short. Your prayers express Trust. Trust that you believe Christ stands beside
you in your dark place and will lead you through this time when it feels like
nothing is happening.
Simply pray as much as you are able whether hour to hour,
minute to minute or second to second. The Lord hears every plea of your heart,
and reads every petition your soul writes.
When nothing is happening where you stand it does not mean
God isn’t hearing your prayers or seeing your plight. Christ stands with you. As
His arms hold you, He is shedding His own tears of grief for you personally.
The word of God tells you He cares about what you are going through (1st
Peter 5:7).
When the devil trusses you up and leaves you swinging in the
wind it just might be the God who never slumbers or sleep is preparing to use
that wind to blow you a time of refreshing. I have yet to see the sun fail to
rise after any dark night and I have been surprised more often than not to see
the Tree of Life still standing right outside my bedroom window. While it is so
that hope deferred makes the heart sick, so our desire fulfilled will be a tree
of life. Don’t give up, Beloved.
Keep the faith and Christ will keep you.

Ken
problema y sigue siendo tu fuerza.
Si alguna vez te has
silencio le llevó a clamar: "¿Por qué me has abandonado?" (Mateo
27:46).
rezas e incluso piensas, larga y breve. Tus oraciones expresan confianza.
Mientras Sus brazos te sostienen, derrama Sus propias
No
te rindas, Amado. Mantén la fe y Cristo te protegerá.
Maranatha,
Ken
