When it Feels Like Nothing is Happening

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12 (NIV)

There is a saying that “Life is what happens to us on the road to our dreams.” It pretty much sums up the reality of the human existence. I believe many of my readers may have their own stories of that.

Some may have suffered a temporary setback to their dreams and some the shock of what looked like a hopeless situation. Satan holds the power of hopelessness over us through the lie that God’s silence means He doesn’t hear us. It is more than just stealing our hope. It is the same lie and misrepresentation the devil used on Adam and Eve that God is untrustworthy (Genesis 3:5). Jesus said Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). It is true and he excels at deceiving us.

The wind that the hosts of darkness may have you twisting in certainly can be very disheartening, but if you’re currently turning in it or have had a negative past experience where you did, the God who never slumbers or sleeps is fully aware of your pickle and remains your strength.

If you have ever fretted at God’s silence, you’re in good company. Jesus was faced with the Father’s silence when He needed it most, in the darkness of the cross. That silence brought Him to call out “Why have You forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46).

Jesus cried out the finish of God’s redemptive plan just before He bowed His head in death. All this was happening while the Disciples were swinging in the wind, hiding and hopeless. They were unaware that in three days their dread would evaporate when they saw the Son rise from the grave. These same men and women who were cowering from Roman and high priest hostility would soon be in the temple with a blazing testimony and courage that would eventually bring Christ’s redemptive light to the entire Earth.

Finally, when nothing seems to be happening, I have found the power of prayer is heard by our Father in heaven who in His loving grace has kept me through my experience. I’m not giving you a formula of a 1-hour daily prayer time for an instant and miraculous fix. I wish the Lord worked that way every time but He works each case on its own merits. You are that special to Him.

Jesus hears every prayer you pray and even think, long and short. Your prayers express Trust. Trust that you believe Christ stands beside you in your dark place and will lead you through this time when it feels like nothing is happening.

Simply pray as much as you are able whether hour to hour, minute to minute or second to second. The Lord hears every plea of your heart, and reads every petition your soul writes.

When nothing is happening where you stand it does not mean God isn’t hearing your prayers or seeing your plight. Christ stands with you. As His arms hold you, He is shedding His own tears of grief for you personally. The word of God tells you He cares about what you are going through (1st Peter 5:7).

When the devil trusses you up and leaves you swinging in the wind it just might be the God who never slumbers or sleep is preparing to use that wind to blow you a time of refreshing. I have yet to see the sun fail to rise after any dark night and I have been surprised more often than not to see the Tree of Life still standing right outside my bedroom window. While it is so that hope deferred makes the heart sick, so our desire fulfilled will be a tree of life.  Don’t give up, Beloved. Keep the faith and Christ will keep you.

Maranatha,

(Mateo 27:46).

No te rindas, Amado. Mantén la fe y Cristo te protegerá.

What to do?

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

A few years ago, I was asked by my son-in-law, a new believer, if there was a book I could recommend that explained the Christian faith and what he needed to do now? I could not think of a book of Christianity 101 that could explain that fully outside of the word of God.

Here is what I suggest new believers do. Start by getting a complete Bible, Old and New Testaments (the New is a completion of the Old) and read the Gospel of John (the 4th book in the New Testament) It focuses on the humanity and the Deity of Jesus. He is 100% man and 100% God (John 1:1, 14). He called every person who would believe before the foundation of the Earth was set (Ephesians 1:4).

While I do not recommend a specific church denomination find a church that is faithful to teaching sound doctrine. My greatest growth as a believer came from attending a church that taught from Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21. Be discerning, ask questions and read the word of God daily and you will be able to discern a counterfeit doctrine from a Scripturally sound one.

Finally, I can say with certainty you will never find a perfect church, but that’s OK, search for a fellowship of believers anyway. We’re all imperfect. If you were hurt by anyone in a church or by a Christian at work, school, or anywhere else, remember those people were imperfect and were not nailed to a cross for you. Put your eyes on Jesus.  Christ did not hurt you; imperfect people did.

Do not hold a grudge but forgive them. When you forgive it is mostly for your benefit so that any corruption it caused can be lanced and the process of healing can start. A bitter and angry spirit only separates us from an active and vibrant relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus did not make forgiveness optional but said we must forgive (Luke 17:4). Forgiveness is a choice. Release the burden.

The message of the Gospel is so simple a 4-year-old understands it when she sings “Jesus loves me, this I know,” and so powerful and profound scholars cannot adequately explain it. I like to remind everyone that Jesus is a personal Savior, for He deals so personally and tenderly with every one of us. In closing beloved if you have just believed or drifted away after hitting a rocky patch on life’s highway, be encouraged for He never left you. He brought you back today to let you know that, and to remind you of the dedicated love He holds for you.

If you are seeking and unsure all I can do, is again ask why not trust Jesus? Really, what have you got to lose? Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. If He is not real you can go about your business having lost nothing. But you can experience His reality as millions of believers have. You may be very amazed at what you find in that reality. Just ask Him. God bless you in your journey!

Maranatha (Come Lord Jesus),

No guardes rencor, sino perdóalas.

Christians Are Not Consigned to Hell

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. Hebrews 2:14-15 (NIV)

I once worked for a local cemetery as a sales rep going door to door. Many people I spoke to listened respectfully until they realized I was selling cemetery property. I cannot tell you the number of doors I literally had slammed in my face.

The fear of death can terrorize the human mind and soul and create a steadfast determination to avoid it with silly and unscriptural fantasies. One lady told me she didn’t need a cemetery plot. When I asked why, she said “Because I don’t plan on ever dying.” That was over fifty years ago. She was no spring chicken at the time and I’m very sure that wherever her choice took her that what she refused to believe then she believes now.

I have lately been alarmed at the many videos I have seen that are teaching Christians will go to hell for their sins. The long and the short of that idea is farfetched. Christians will not go to hell.

Every believer is indwelled with the Holy Spirit when they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit, part of the Godhead (1st Corinthians 6:19, Acts 5:4), cannot exist in hell. How can God be separated from Himself? And why would He have to suffer for His sins if He is perfectly holy? If you are a truly committed believer in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ there is no way you will be assigned to be separated from God in hell.

Paul writes in today’s verse that the fear of death can hold us in a lifelong bondage to continual stress and worry that takes a toll on our physical being, our relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and our trust in the power of Christ’s substitutionary work that has redeemed you thoroughly.

If you are reading this as a searcher, seeking to find a place where you are valued unconditionally or a believer that has lived as a slave to the fear of death let me assure you the true answer is no, a Christian cannot be cast into hell for their sins for Christ cannot deny Himself. And yes, if you are searching for ultimate truth please read to the end.

The yoke or burden of Christ is not onerous or heavy, so if you are a believer, relax. The confidence that if Christ’s power upholds creation blotting out your sins is certainly doable in your personal affairs. It brings rest for the soul (Matthew 11:28-30). Should you breathe your last today you will instantly be present with Christ (2nd Corinthians 5:9) as was the thief on the cross, not tomorrow, next week or at the end of time but today (Luke 23:43).

If you are seeking that kind of confident hope, I can point you to the Way (John 14:6). Can you embrace that Jesus Christ is a real person who is alive right now at the place of honor at the right hand of God? All you need to do is believe in His work of taking upon Himself every sin from truly repentant hearts. His faithful love has done it.

I like to put out this challenge to searchers. Why not trust Jesus? What do you have to lose? Ask Him to forgive your sins and lead you into a changed life. If He is not who he said He is, then what have you lost? You can go about your business and keep looking. But He is truly real. Test Him. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Really you have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain, May He lead you in your search and break any chains of worry, and grant you the rest you want from the burden of care and stress!

Maranatha,

Ken

Ponle a prueba.

Maranatha,

Ken

Where Angels Wish to Tread

It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. 1st Peter 1:12 (NIV)

Can any of the angels that joined Lucifer in his long war against God be redeemed?

All the commentary opinions I have read say no. There are a couple of reasons: First, all the angels that went with Lucifer did so after witnessing the Glory of God with no deception to mislead them and draw them into sin. Their rebellion was completely voluntary, and viciously evil, and therefore totally without excuse. Second, redemption was offered to Adam’s race as he was created in the Image of God. The angels were created in a holy estate, but not in God’s image as were Adam and Eve.

Paul speaks of “elect” angels, one’s who will never rebel and Peter speaks of the ones God put in chains to await judgment (1st Timothy 5:21, 2nd Peter 2:4).

So, because Lucifer and the ones that joined him in rebellion did so voluntarily after beholding the Perfection of the Godhead in its magnificent form and glory, it is questionable that even if they were offered salvation and a way to be forgiven, they would refuse it and choose to remain in their chosen state of damnation (Matthew 25:41).

But being made in the Image of God means being created with purpose, difference and the highest worth. Worth that the Father who held all Power and Perfection offered up His Son to reclaim us to Himself. In God’s fullest Power, Knowledge, and Perfection He could have wiped the slate clean and started over. His justice demanded it but instead of giving us what we had coming He gave us Jesus.

What a tremendous blessing that God created the human race in His image with that Get Out of Hell Free card through the cross and the shed blood of the Lamb of God.

We only need to believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ (Acts 16:30-31). The ALL is totally inclusive in a dying breath of faith or if one cannot speak the final thought of belief. God hears and sees both. And why not? He is God (Jeremiah 32:27).

We are a special race in Adam’s seed who are worthy to attain Salvation, through Jesus Christ. In the very place we make our home in Jesus, it is the very place His angels wish to tread.

Maranatha,

Ken

Maranatha,

Ken

Why? If He Knew?

So God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

If God knew Adam and Eve’s rebellion would cause all the grief and suffering in the world today then why did He go ahead and create them?

I was contemplating this today as I was reading in Genesis and asked, “What did you expect to gain, God?” There are no gods who claim to have the full attributes Jehovah God claims to have, or can demand the fullest right of worship that He does. He holds all wisdom, power, and authority. In Him are no suggestions.

And yet knowing we would fail, He created mankind anyway. He did not wipe the slate clean when we failed and start anew. He is the only God in history who with perfect holiness offered Himself to reclaim a Creation broken and hostile to His open arms.

As I contemplated this, I realized He did so, that He might receive the highest honor and a glory greater in eternity than can ever be imagined or invented. What god of man’s making has done so? I found none in my research.

The Psalmist writes of the gods of man’s imaginings; “For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary (Psalm 96:5-6). How could a Being of ultimate power surrender Himself to so severe a punishment to restore us to a fellowship lost?

He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world. He knew ahead of time we would choose the wilderness, yet was ready to save and restore the flock.

So, then, what seems to put God into a box of incompetence that borders on a malevolent nature, brings instead to Him the highest honor and glory. Why did He do it anyway? Because He knew what the angels and we ourselves would proclaim in our praises of Him and would make the minions of the Devil tremble.

There are no actions of earth that can work us out of our sin and there are no words that can adequately express our gratitude when He has answered our wilderness bleatings. Thankfully, there are no empty gods to waste our time following. Our God is the One True and Living God. He has always known us. He has always been enough.

Maranatha,

Ken

Maranatha,

Ken
