The Devil's Biggest Blunder

 

“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify him!” Matthew 27:22 (NIV)

We can tend to give the Devil more credit than he is due. Some may see him as an equal to Jehovah God in power and being, or say he is the brother of Jesus. There is nothing in Scripture that alludes or even hints at either.

There is only one begotten Son of the Father, not two. The writer of Hebrews clarifies the standing of the angels. They are holy, yet not deity. He writes, ‘For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”’?  He concludes, ‘In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.” ‘But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom”’ (Hebrews. 1:7-8).

The Devil is a cunning adversary but he is not like God in any sense for he is fallible. He allowed ambitious pride to corrupt his holy standing as the highest angelic cherub to attend God’s throne (Ezekiel 28:17). Even the demons knew who Jesus was and He forbade them to speak of it (Mark 1:34). Satan saw the Father-Son relationship between the pre-incarnate Christ and Jehovah, too, and in Jesus as the incarnate Son of God. It is no wonder he wanted the Son dead and out of the way.

I used to think it was the Devil, or the ruling Jewish Council and Rome who put Jesus on the cross. It was none of them really for Jesus chose its shame, and humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death on it (John 10:17-18, Philippians 2:8). At His arrest He demonstrated the power He could have used to stop it by pushing those men back onto the ground with unseen, yet full Supremacy (John 18:6). He could have destroyed them there, but relented, allowing them to carry out their wicked plan against Him.

When Peter tried to defend Him, Jesus told him He could have the Father send Him twelve legions of angels (72,000) to save Him (Matthew 26:53). I point out 2^nd Kings 19:35 where it records one angel killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in a single night, so imagine what twelve legions could have done to the earth! Jesus told Pilate that he would have no power over Him unless it was granted by heaven (John 19:11).

When Jesus chose to die, He only experienced death for a mere 72 hours, 3 days, for its power could not hold Him. He then raised Himself from the grave (John 2:19)! What the Devil saw in putting Jesus to death as a permanent solution, brought about God’s permanent redemption promised in Eden, for only shed blood could bring God’s forgiveness (Genesis 3:15, Leviticus 17:11).

The cross gave Jesus the chance to prove His Father’s love for you. The Devil’s miscalculation of the power of the cross was his undoing. You can rest in the fact his mistake purchased you hope and joy that cannot be denied in a salvation that is powerfully life changing.

What love! What mercy! It was the shedding of the blood of the Lamb of God that was your greatest gain, and was Satan’s biggest blunder.

El mayor error del diablo

Podemos tender a darle al Diablo más crédito del que se merece. Algunos quizás lo vean como un igual a Jehová Dios en poder y ser, o digan que es el hermano de Jesús. No hay nada en las Escrituras que aluda o incluso insinúe ninguna de las dos cosas.

Solo hay un Hijo engendrado del Padre, no dos. El escritor de Hebreos aclara la posición de los ángeles. Son santos, pero no deidades. Él escribe: "Porque, ¿a cuál de los ángeles dijo Dios: 'Tú eres mi Hijo; hoy me he convertido en tu Padre"?  Y concluye: "Al hablar de los ángeles, dice: "Él hace a sus ángeles espíritus, y a sus siervos llamas de fuego". Pero acerca del Hijo dice: "Tu trono, oh Dios, será por los siglos de los siglos; cetro de justicia será el cetro de tu reino" (Hebreos 1:7-8).

El Diablo es un adversario astuto, pero no es como Dios en ningún sentido, porque es falible. Permitió que el orgullo ambicioso corrompiera su santa posición como el querubín angélico más alto para asistir al trono de Dios (Ezequiel 28:17). Incluso los demonios sabían quién era Jesús y Él les prohibió hablar de ello (Marcos 1:34). Satanás también vio la relación Padre-Hijo entre el Cristo preencarnado y Jehová, y en Jesús como el Hijo de Dios encarnado. No es de extrañar que quisiera que el Hijo estuviera muerto y fuera del camino.

Solía pensar que fue el Diablo, o el gobernante Consejo Judío y Roma quienes pusieron a Jesús en la cruz. En realidad, no fue ninguno de ellos, porque Jesús escogió su vergüenza y se humilló a sí mismo haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte (Juan 10:17-18, Filipenses 2:8). En Su arresto, Él demostró el poder que podría haber usado para detenerlo empujando a esos hombres hacia el suelo con una Supremacía invisible, pero total (Juan 18:6). Él podría haberlos destruido allí, pero cedió, permitiéndoles llevar a cabo su malvado plan contra Él.

Cuando Pedro trató de defenderlo, Jesús le dijo que podía hacer que el Padre le enviara doce legiones de ángeles (72.000) para salvarlo (Mateo 26:53). Señalo 2 Reyes 19:35 donde se registra que un ángel mató a 185.000 soldados asirios en una sola noche, ¡así que imagínese lo que doce legiones podrían haberle hecho a la tierra! Jesús le dijo a Pilato que no tendría poder sobre Él a menos que el cielo se lo concediera (Juan 19:11).

Cuando Jesús eligió morir, solo experimentó la muerte por solo 72 horas, 3 días, porque su poder no podía sostenerlo. ¡Entonces se levantó de la tumba (Juan 2:19)! Lo que el Diablo vio al dar muerte a Jesús como una solución permanente, trajo consigo la redención permanente de Dios prometida en el Edén, porque solo la sangre derramada podía traer el perdón de Dios (Génesis 3:15, Levítico 17:11).

La cruz le dio a Jesús la oportunidad de demostrar el amor de Su Padre por ti. El error de cálculo del Diablo sobre el poder de la cruz fue su perdición. Puedes descansar en el hecho de que su error te compró esperanza y gozo que no se pueden negar en una salvación que cambia poderosamente la vida.

¡Qué amor! ¡Qué misericordia! Fue el derramamiento de la sangre del Cordero de Dios lo que fue su mayor ganancia, y fue el mayor error de Satanás.
